To provide and oversee quality patient care according to The Cambridge Hospital standards of nursing practice. Collaborates with the nurse manager to foster skilled and quality evidence based nursing care, unit organization and cohesiveness and development of staff. The clinical leader assists the nurse manager in the overall coordination of the clinical area by assuming the responsibility and accountability for daily operations. The clinical leader assumes responsibility for and serves a resource to the staff in clinical practice, staff development, clinical leadership, and professional growth in consistent collaboration with the nurse manager. The clinical leader demonstrates advanced nursing skills in the nursing, and possesses the necessary leadership skills to direct performance improvement initiatives in collaboration leadership, and other patient care areas.
Clinical Management/Leadership 1. Anticipates and coordinates staffing needs for the McGovern Maternity unit. 2. Facilitates clinical coordination of admissions, transfers, and discharges to insure a smooth patient flow as needed. 3. Organizes daily assignments to ensure the patient's needs are met. 4. Re-evaluates and adjusts assignments as volume and acuity change. 5. Follows through on problems by using the appropriate clinical and administrative channels. 6. Participates in the development of annual unit based goals and objectives. 7. In conjunction with the nurse manager, assumes a leadership role in the planning, implementation and evaluation of unit based programs, both clinical and administrative. 8. Recognizes environmental and system constraints that impact unit operations. Acts with nurse manager's support, as a change agent among the staff in responding to the changing health care environment. 9. Serves as an expert resource to all members of the multi-disciplinary team regarding unit operations and patient care issues. 10. In collaboration with the nurse manager and clinical manager, assesses performance of new staff members. 11. Actively participates in unit, department, and hospital committees. 12. Facilitates staff participation in unit, department, and hospital committees. 13. Identifies performance problems to the nurse manager as needed. 14. Assists in scheduling of staff as needed.15. Assumes a leadership role in clinical and administrative multi-disciplinary collaborative practice activities. 16. Collaborates with Nursing Department around effective use of staff resources. 17. Creates a supportive and cohesive environment that facilitates learning and professional growth. 18. Conducts daily rounds on all patients to enhance their experience and improve satisfaction scores. Looks for concerns/issues and is proactive in addressing them. 19. Collaborates with Nurse Manager or designee to implement service recovery when necessary. 20. Assists in the development of drills on the unit. Actively participates in drills. Collaborates with the Clinical Manager/Nurse Manager to identify opportunities for improvement.
Qualifications/Requirements Education/Training: Graduate of NLN Accredited School of Nursing.
BSN required. Licensure: Current Massachusetts licensure as Registered Nurse Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NRP,
Work Experience: 5 years Antepartum, Intrapartum, Postpartum, and Newborn Nursery 2 years charge experience; Possesses strong communication / organizational skills.
